Road closures & signage

Specific information on closing roads and signage for events in Powys, from Powys County Council.

For some events – a street party or carnival parade or road race for example – you may need to apply to the council for a Temporary Road Closure Order or Temporary Traffic Restriction Order. There will be a cost for this. You need to allow at least 6 months for this process.

The Highways team at Powys County Council will advise you on the necessary signage to close the roads and how to notify the public, public transport and the emergency services.

You can also check the Department of Transport’s guide, which applies to both England and Wales.

Do remember that for Wales, the signs must be bilingual with the Welsh text at the top.

If you are expecting people to drive to your event and you have sufficient parking, you may also wish to use the AA to provide directional signs.
