Site Permissions and National Parks

Specific information on site permissions and organising events in National Parks in Powys, from Powys County Council.

Unless you or your organisation own the site or venue that you intend to use, you will need permission from the owner/organisation responsible for managing the site and you will need to agree clear terms of use.

Agree in writing:

  • the exact venue and/or outdoor space.
  • the dates you have access (remember to allow time for the set-up and take-down).
  • how much you will pay, if anything, to hire the location and under what terms.
  • any necessary reinstatement costs for damage you may cause to the site or venue.
  • whether you will have a key to entrance/s or need to go through a caretaker or similar.
  • what your hire includes. For instance, does it include use of parking, water taps on site, electrics, the toilets, kitchen, changing rooms etc? (Also check if the times they are available match your needs). Don’t assume that your hire comes with all the facilities you see. Using them may cost extra.
  • whether you have sole access to the venue/site or whether there will be other users on-site.
  • whether the venue has an existing licence and insurance and if so, what is covered.
  • Whether there are any covenants on the venue/space that may prevent certain activities.

Holding Events in National Parks

If you want to hold an event within the Eryri or Bannau Brecheiniog National Parks, contact the National Park Authority. Similarly, it is good practice to talk to officers at the AONBs (Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty) and SSSIs (Sites of Special Scientific Interest) about your event as they may also be protected by special legislation.
